Chiros Care Who We Are
Chiros Care is a new charitable organization, entirely staffed by volunteers, whose function is to further knowledge about melanoma among Canadian Chiropractors. This charity is the brain child of Tyler Damen, a chiropractic student who faced a personal battle with melanoma throughout 2006-2007. Following his triumph over melanoma, he recognized that there is an extraordinary opportunity among chiropractors to aid in the early recognition of cancerous skin cells. As a student at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, he has witnessed first hand the dedication and caring that exists within the profession and so in beginning his charity, he knew he was reaching out to a group of dedicated professionals.
This is an important and life saving initiative. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Canada. Anyone born today faces a 1 in 7 risk of developing skin cancer during his or her lifetime and melanoma is the most serious of all skin cancers. Alarmingly, its incidence has doubled in Canada in the last 20 years. Recognizing melanoma in its early stages is crucial and this charity, Chiros Care is going to make that happen! Chiros Care will fund education initiatives on skin cancers for Canadian Chiropractors through literature and seminars. It will also fund research into melanoma treatments, and provide funding, through the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, to assist with the care of individuals coping with melanoma treatment. With the backing of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Chiropractors and Physicians, Chiros Care is poised to change the statistics on skin cancers - and particular, melanoma. |
